It was a perfect spot to warm up on a cold weekend afternoon and if we're back in the area, we would certainly return based on the service and the food. Antlers offered an interesting craft beer selection and they were very kind about bringing a few small samples until decisions were made. Our friends ordered the french onion soup (which they would not recommend in comparison to others they've had elsewhere), and a bacon cheddar burger and truffle pasta, both of which they thoroughly enjoyed. The combination of the 7 cheeses (swiss, gouda, parmesan, cheddar, white cheddar, bleu, and Monterey jack) was good, but what it was missing, in my opinion, was some melted cheese over the top - just a few minutes under the broiler to really make it pop (and keep it warm at our table). Our only slight disappointment was the mac & cheese. I thought the basic bun served was just fine, but my husband would have preferred going with the pretzel bun. They offered a pretzel bun for an upcharge, which we turned down. The burger was very good and prepared to medium, as requested. My husband and I shared a mushroom swiss burger (with candied onions), a house salad (homemade tangy Dijon vinaigrette dressing was delicious), and the 7 Cheese Mac & Cheese. Therefore, our service was great - prompt, friendly, and helpful. We were actually served by several people, assumingly because they were not busy. The place was very quiet, but I imagine that it's packed during the summer, based on its location. He went on to attend Schoolcraft College to achieve his Culinary Arts degree in Livonia, outside of Detroit. His first professional chef position was running the kitchen at Shorts Brewery, one of the first microbreweries to open in the area, shortly after they opened. After years of working in positions in both front and back of the house, he ended up north in Bellaire, MI. There he discovered the chaos of the kitchen and enjoyed everything that came along with it. He first worked as a line cook at the former Broadway Grill in downtown Mt. Pleasant and is a 5th generation resident. Jim is passionate about bringing something completely new to town and feels humbled in his attempt to serve exciting food to his community.
